NEW YORK -Empire State Building goes green!

DONATE to Clinton Global InitiativeIn the 1930s, the Empire State Building was proof of what a combination of innovation and hard work could accomplish in a race to build the tallest skyscraper in the world.

Today, President Clinton joined New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to announce that the Empire State Building is joining the race against climate change.

The building will undergo an energy-saving retrofit to improve building efficiency, reduce its carbon footprint, and save on utility costs. With your financial support, the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) can continue to bring together experts, building owners, energy service companies, and financial institutions to get more projects like this up and running in more cities worldwide. Buildings contribute up to 80% of greenhouse gas emissions in some cities.

As of March 2009, CCI and its partners have helped building owners evaluate hundreds of opportunities for building retrofit projects in dozens of cities worldwide. CCI serves as the action arm of the C40, an organization of cities around the world that are working to reduce their carbon emissions. In addition to building retrofits, CCI applies this same macro-level approach to address other major sources of greenhouse gases, and the people, policies, and practices that impact them.
